Trade Effluent is any liquid waste (effluent) other than surface water and domestic wastewater which is discharged into a public sewer from premises being used as a business – e.g. manufacturing, launderettes, car washes and food processing.

There is currently some Environment Agency legislation surrounding wastewater which is not on mains drainage. From 1st January 2020 this legislation is being enforced and changes must be in place by that date, at the very latest – otherwise the Environment Agency may penalise you.
