Walhampton School Case Study

A successful project to bring a leading independent school back onto mains water has developed into a contract for regular maintenance and risk assessment work for AquaCare.

Walhampton School, set in 100 acres of the New Forest, is a co-ed day and boarding school for children aged from two to 13. As well as emphasising academic achievement, it also fosters a distinctive ‘Swallows and Amazon’ spirit.

The school first approached AquaCare in 2016 when it was experiencing problems with low water pressure due to its ageing water tower. AquaCare bypassed the tower and put the school back onto a mains supply which quickly rectified the problem. This was followed with a contract to provide regular maintenance and risk assessment services, including Legionella, and the installation of the barcoded compliance system, Zetasafe, which monitors water in key areas around the site and highlights any variations in normal temperature levels.

AquaCare staff now visit the school every month to carry out water temperature checks as well as twice-yearly visits to inspect the school’s water storage tanks. As a result, they have developed a strong relationship with Walhampton’s Estates team.
“We have extremely good communication with the school and they know they can phone us at any time and we will be there to help,” said Emma King, AquaCare’s Business Solutions Manager.

A spokesman for the school said: “We had a problem with low water pressure in the school because of an issue with the main water connection.  AquaCare came out and solved the problem for us.  They installed a wider diameter supply main, bypassing the aged water tower and putting the school back on mains supply.  The results were immediate and significant – higher water pressure throughout the school and staff quarters, and with minimum disruption – thank you AquaCare.”
