Water sampling
Routine water sampling is the most cost effective way to determine if the actual quality of the water in any premises is fit for purpose. We offer a full sampling and inspection service to cover any water system. Water samples are collected in appropriate bottles by our technicians and sent off to a UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis. The results are then reported back to our customers with recommendations for any required action.
Samples can be taken from cold water storage tanks, showers, calorifiers, water heaters, cooling towers, jacuzzis – in fact any hot and cold water system.
Temperature monitoring
Regular temperature monitoring of a water system is an important part of making sure the water temperatures stay within a safe range. Legionella bacteria grow in warm water, typically between 20 and 50 degrees, but proliferate fastest in stagnant water at 35 to 46 degrees.
Temperature monitoring is an essential part of a water monitoring regime. This involves running water for two minutes, recording the temperature, and manually logging and reviewing test returns. We offer bespoke temperature monitoring services that are tailored to your Legionella risk assessment specification
Calorifier / boiler inspections
A calorifer is a cylinder with a coil which is heated by an external source. In these vessels, the cold water typically enters at the base creating an area below the coil where the initial blended water temperature is at a higher risk of supporting legionella growth. The fitting of a timer-controlled shunt pump to circulate the water from the top of the calorifer to the base should be considered during a period of least demand.
We recommend that calorifiers are inspected annually or more frequently if the risk assessment deems appropriate.
The cleanliness of the system is paramount, and it is worth considering a water softener to reduce the risk of scale being deposited at the base of the calorifer and heating coils.
Flushing
A robust flushing regime should form part of a Legionella monitoring program to ensure you’re compliant with legislation and to keep your customers and staff safe.
This can be carried out by an in-house responsible person, or one of our qualified and experienced engineers. Regular flushing helps eradicate any bacteria, particularly in any little used outlets, where water can stagnate and legionella can proliferate. All records of regular flushing should be kept for five years.
